Stopped in here for a late dinner with a friend not long ago and left with a satisfied experience. I didn't really know what to expect from this place upon first hearing about it, but now I can tell people it's a sports bar with good food including awesome wings! I got one of the spicy wings for an appetizer to the meal, there were so many different sauces to choose from. The wings came out from the kitchen very quick and I was digging in enjoying all the wonderful flavors. I also ordered the prime rib sandwich which was good , but nothing I would return to the establishment for. The atmosphere was good, not too busy, and plenty large tv's for everyone to watch the game. Honestly , it would be better coming here to support your local business rather than go to a Bdubs or somewhere like that. Get their wings, they rock! I am excited to come back here so I can try something else from their menu.

Good local place with a variety of options. I was a little concerned with a seat yourself place, but we sat down in a crowded room and were acknowledged quickly. The menu is standard bar and grill flare - wings, nachos, burgers, sandwiches, salads and pizza. With three choosy eaters, I liked all the options. When we arrived a nearby table was finishing a think crust pizza that looked good, so we ordered one. My husband had a prime rib sandwich. The reports on the sandwich was good. The pizza delivered. It was a thick crust with seven cheeses melted to a browned top. Service was decent throughout, and it was a good place for a meal. We will be back.

The Jamaican Jerk and Habanero Garlic bone-in wings are off the chain! Always good service.

I would give this place 5 stars if they would redo their bathrooms - yuck! I've been living near here for 3 years and we frequent often due to its proximity and awesome selection of football games. Things to eat: wings! Yum! The staff is friendly and fun and easy going.

I've been to the Chicken Coop twice and I truly believe they serve the best wings I've ever eaten. Like several other reviews have alluded to, the wings are broiled / grilled instead of fried. This adds a nice caramelization to the sauces and adds a nice smokiness to them. If you like wings, you're in for a treat. The fried pickles were fantastic, too. As for the quality of the service, several other reviews complained about it, but my own experiences don't back this up. I had above-average service both times I visited. The servers checked in often, everything was delivered quickly and correctly. If you like wings, you owe it to yourself to try the Chicken Coop. They're worth the trip just for their uniqueness, and if you're like me, you may just find your new favorite wing place.

Service was great...very friendly. But the food was just horrible. I went there on a Wednesday afternoon and got the special (Reuben sandwich) with fries. The meat in the Reuben was dry and chewy - it did not resemble corned beef. It had the texture of beef jerky - no exaggeration at all. There were about 3-4 pieces of this nasty beef jerky stuff on the sandwich. The bread was so dry that it cut open the roof of my mouth. The waitress said that there was only 1 cook in the kitchen that day and I can only assume he made the sandwich and set it under a heating lamp until the bread got so dry that it could physically harm a person's mouth just from taking a bite. Fries were limp, lukewarm, and unseasoned. Will not go back. Ever.

The wings here are meatier and have a much better taste than Buffalo Wild Wings. Jamaican Jerk is really tasty. There is absolutely no reason to go to b-dubs again.

We've been to the Chicken Coop several times for one reason... the wings. The wings are definitely some of the best in town. The rest of the food is pretty standard but the wings are by far the best thing on the menu. The service has generally been good although during a big sporting even you will run into the standard wait. In addition, the staff has always been good to accommodate my toddler son and will interact with him which is a huge plus in this mom's book.

If you're looking for a casual wings and beer night, it's a good choice. Meaty wings with good flavor is what you'll find with friendly and attentive service. I've never had a bad experience here and the food is pretty consistent among visits. Kids are welcome.

I have been to this place a number of times and have never been terribly impressed by the food. I will say their pizza and wings are really good though. I tried them recently and now I have a reason to go back. I also like it that they designate Tyson on their menu for certain chicken dishes. The transparency is appreciated as their are a number of places that use precooked stuff but then try to pass it off as their own.

Really you want to go to a chain place when you can have local flair? I really like this place. The owners a two great people that care about their customer's experience. Instead of frying their wings here they grill them, and they have some great sauces. Some people really enjoy their fried pickle's, but I have not had them. I am however a big fan of their fries! (ready for the big sage way?) Speaking of fans....this is a great place to watch sports. There is not a seat in the house that does not have a view of the TV. Give this place a shot, but fair warning during big games for Iowa, IA State, or nebraska then go very early the place fills up fast!

One of the better places for wings in the Des Moines area. They go with a non breaded, broiled wing which is different than most. They are usually big on size and outside of Buffalo Wild Wings, they host the largest variety of sauces I have seen. The buck nasty hot sauce which is the hottest on their scale is very good with enough heat to pack a punch but not leave you wanting a gallon of milk afterward. They also have a good variety of bar food type apps such as breaded mushrooms and the like. This is a great place to go watch sports at as well, the bar area has a handful of TVs plus there are more in the dining room area as well. They also have pretty good drink specials going during most sporting events.

The food is pretty boring. Seriously, if you think reading this is boring, try eating the food at the Coop....now that's boring!!! Also the too cool for school, blond, bartender lady. Not as hot as she thinks she is. It's a good place to grab a brew and watch some games. And w/ El Aguila (sp?) and Limey's right by, you can make a whole evening of hanging out in the grocery store shopping center!

If you love wings, you have to try out the Chicken Coop! Their wings are grilled, not deep fried. They have unique sauces that range from sweet to spicy to hot! They are sooo good! They also have a great selection of drinks and many TVs as they are a sports bar.

Impressively bad. Spoiled frozen food, snotty waitresses who can't be bothered by their tables. Yuck.

Went in on Sunday to watch the NASCAR race at Talladega. It wasn't on the televisions, but I asked a server and she promptly got it changed. The server we had checked in with my party regularly and refills were prompt. When the race was in the final stages, she said she would "let us enjoy" the race and to flag her down if needed--so she wasn't constantly asking about refills. This was much appreciated. I also appreciated not getting dinged for sour cream and extra sauces. As other reviews have alluded to, the wings are broiled instead of fried; however it gives them a unique (and likely healthier) flavor and texture. I got the "Chicken Feeder", which is five wings, onion rings, buffalo chips (spicy "crinkle cut" potatoes that are thinly sliced) and mozzarella sticks for $11. If you don't have much of an appetite, its probably a good thing to share--however I polished it off by myself. I find the other reviews interesting and somewhat puzzling--no, the Chicken Coop doesn't prepare their food just like Hooters or another chain restaurant. Its unfortunate that people think restaurants should be cookie cutter and prepare their food in identical manners. Distinction is what makes local places stand out from the big guys. If you want a nice experience with local flair (and reasonable prices), The Chicken Coop is an excellent spot to hit.

Me and a couple friends come here every Tuesday for their half price boneless wings! They are always amazing! We get teriyaki and spicy Dijon on the side.. We also like to indulge in a side of super crispy fries and nachos.. You really can't go wrong with anything you order it is all amazing! Oh and Tonya is usually our server she is always super sweet and attentive! She always remembers our drink and food order, love that!

Ordered carry out from here, cheese pizza and 20 buffalo wings. The wings are just ok, the meat itself was pretty good but the sauce definitely lacks the flavor you think of when you want a good buffalo wing. I've heard their other sauces are good, but I tend not to venture too far from the traditional buffalo. The wings would probably get the restaurant 2 stars from me if that's all I ordered. However, I also ordered a cheese pizza. Pretty simple, right? No, the cheese came burnt to a crisp and the sauce has huge chunks of tomato and is not evenly spread throughout the pizza. The pizza crust was very good, too bad the rest of it didn't live up to the crust. Very disappointed in the food here, after reading some reviews I figured we would give it a try and maybe find a new ace to get our takeout from, but the search continues. Go here to have a beer and watch the game, but don't get your hopes up for some good grub.

When your ordered meal arrives, a server will simply hand you a fork and point you to the roll of paper towels already on the table for napkins--no knives, no table manners used here! The featured wine is always Sutter Home. So obviously, this is a pretty no frills, low key bar/establishment. The wings are good--not fried but rather broiled, with several sauce options to choose from. The rest of the food is pretty standard bar food, but fairly tasty. First couple of years this place was open most of the servers appeared stoned and out of it, and it really affected the service. Service seems to be improving and have no complaints from recent visits.
